[00:00:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to The Break Down with Brodkorb and Becky, a weekly podcast that breaks down politics,
[00:00:12] [SPEAKER_00]: policy and current affairs.
[00:00:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm Becky Scherr.
[00:00:15] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'm Michael Brodkorb.
[00:00:16] [SPEAKER_00]: We are recording an extra special podcast episode today featuring two of our favorite guests
[00:00:21] [SPEAKER_00]: ever, which we are required to say by law, Sarah Brodkorb and Joe Scherr, our spouses.
[00:00:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Sarah and Joe are here with us today to break down a twice-a-year occurrence, the
[00:00:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Vikings-Packers Showdown.
[00:00:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Michael and I are both proud Vikings fans hailing from the greatest state in the
[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_00]: country, Minnesota.
[00:00:36] [SPEAKER_00]: We both, however, coincidentally chose to marry folks from across the border, Sarah
[00:00:42] [SPEAKER_00]: from Iowa and Joe from Wisconsin.
[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Two individuals who bleed green and gold and enjoy wearing cheese on their head every
[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Sunday.
[00:00:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Today, Sarah and Joe are going to join us as we break down this weekend's matchup
[00:00:55] [SPEAKER_00]: between the leader of the NFC North and the Packers.
[00:00:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for joining us and enjoy the show.
[00:01:01] [SPEAKER_00]: So Michael, we've been talking about this for a while now.
[00:01:04] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm really excited about this.
[00:01:06] [SPEAKER_04]: I had the pleasure to meet your husband earlier this year and he just threw the heat
[00:01:12] [SPEAKER_04]: the entire time we met.
[00:01:13] [SPEAKER_04]: And we've, you and I, Becky, from football have had a lot of discussions talking
[00:01:17] [SPEAKER_04]: about the Vikings and the Packers.
[00:01:19] [SPEAKER_04]: And I married a Packer fan.
[00:01:22] [SPEAKER_04]: You married a Packer fan.
[00:01:24] [SPEAKER_04]: And so this is I'm so grateful for this opportunity and to have this
[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_04]: discussion.
[00:01:28] [SPEAKER_04]: And this is actually the first time.
[00:01:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Have you ever done any media?
[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_01]: No.
[00:01:32] [SPEAKER_04]: This is the first time my wife has ever done any media.
[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_04]: So this is a great subject to start on.
[00:01:39] [SPEAKER_02]: And Joe, have you do a lot with your support of the Green Bay Packers?
[00:01:43] [SPEAKER_02]: Not with the Green Bay Packers, no, unfortunately, but I've done a few
[00:01:47] [SPEAKER_02]: different things for previous companies that have worked.
[00:01:50] [SPEAKER_00]: He's done some like good training ads and stuff for some of the companies
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_00]: he's worked for.
[00:01:54] [SPEAKER_00]: So I'll have to, I'll pull those up from the vault soon.
[00:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh God, no.
[00:01:58] [SPEAKER_04]: So how should we tackle this very contankerous and polarizing subject?
[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Why don't we just break down some of the stats here?
[00:02:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Of course I have to do some of my prep work, right?
[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_00]: The so far Vikings and Packers have met 127 times.
[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Packers are coming out on top.
[00:02:14] [SPEAKER_00]: They won 66 Vikings have won 58.
[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_00]: They've tied three times and we don't need to go through all of the history
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_00]: of it all.
[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_00]: There's been two.
[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_00]: So deep, Becky.
[00:02:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:02:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't look quite deep enough.
[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I heard you were doing your own talking points.
[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's hear it, Sarah.
[00:02:30] [SPEAKER_01]: What are those real stats we want to get to?
[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_01]: How many Super Bowls have you won?
[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the Packers, man.
[00:02:39] Oh, you're.
[00:02:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I have to say when they were making the US Bank stadium, my husband
[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_00]: always liked to joke.
[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_00]: What was your joke about it?
[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_02]: That's they made they saved a lot of room
[00:02:49] [SPEAKER_02]: but not having to put up that trophy cabinet anywhere.
[00:02:52] [SPEAKER_04]: What a terrible thing to say.
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_04]: That's terrible.
[00:02:56] [SPEAKER_04]: Now that Sarah's now that Sarah's dipped into the rivalry, Joe,
[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_04]: do you have a few things you want to say?
[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_02]: No, I just thank you again for the opportunity to be here.
[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_02]: I was planning on a little something, but we'll wait for next time
[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_02]: because I honestly, I have no expectations for this first outcome of this series.
[00:03:16] [SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be very interesting to see if we do have Jordan Love play
[00:03:19] [SPEAKER_02]: this week.
[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Malik Willis has looked great these first two games.
[00:03:24] [SPEAKER_02]: But again, it's border battle week.
[00:03:26] [SPEAKER_02]: Anything can happen.
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_00]: You're hedging your bets early.
[00:03:29] [SPEAKER_04]: So you're not even.
[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Are you even can come prepared to defend yourself?
[00:03:33] [SPEAKER_04]: Are you just are you preparing for the Vikings to win this weekend?
[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_02]: No, we'll say after.
[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to say it's just pack or magic, but Brian Flores does
[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_02]: bring a defense that is very formidable.
[00:03:48] [SPEAKER_02]: But again, we see it every year that the clown car shows up
[00:03:52] [SPEAKER_02]: every once in a while for the Vikings and it makes for some
[00:03:56] [SPEAKER_02]: excellent TV and excellent discussions in our home.
[00:04:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Michael, what do you think about that?
[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_01]: The clown car?
[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_04]: There's no reason to bring clowns into this.
[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_04]: So there should be things that should be sacred in clowns.
[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_04]: I want Sarah explain a little bit your this packers situation you have.
[00:04:13] [SPEAKER_04]: You're from the state of Iowa.
[00:04:15] [SPEAKER_04]: You're not from Wisconsin.
[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_04]: So you could basically pick any team and you pick the worst one to pick.
[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_01]: That is always your criticism on me.
[00:04:24] [SPEAKER_01]: However, what I think being from Iowa, I am a packers fan.
[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_01]: My dad was a packers fan.
[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm wearing his shirt, less his heart.
[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_01]: He's up in heaven now.
[00:04:34] [SPEAKER_01]: But and I became a packer fan through my dad.
[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_01]: That was and so I've always been a packer fan since I was a little kid.
[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And that being said, Michael feels that since I am from Iowa,
[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I can choose whichever team I want and I don't have to be loyal to anyone.
[00:04:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I would say the fact that I am from Iowa.
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I could just choose whatever team I want any year based on how the teams are performing.
[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But I have stuck with my team because I have faith in them.
[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_04]: Joe, do you have some childhood trauma that led to you going with the packers?
[00:05:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Or what reason did you make this poor choice in your life?
[00:05:08] [SPEAKER_02]: So I knew this one was coming.
[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_02]: So my again, I hail from the wonderful state of Wisconsin.
[00:05:13] [SPEAKER_02]: If you want a little background, dead center, Marshall, Wisconsin,
[00:05:17] [SPEAKER_02]: if you take the glove and you point right in the middle,
[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_02]: you'll find Marshall right there.
[00:05:22] [SPEAKER_02]: But my father was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_02]: He grew up in the 70s.
[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Steel Curtain was his squad.
[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_02]: And but my grandfather, Grandpa Bob, was a diehard packers fan to the day he died.
[00:05:35] [SPEAKER_02]: So I pledged my allegiance with him.
[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_02]: We had a weekly bet of a dollar that I would get the packers
[00:05:42] [SPEAKER_02]: and he would get the opposing team.
[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_02]: And luckily I came out ahead by about $14.
[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_02]: It was a wonderful experience growing up.
[00:05:51] [SPEAKER_04]: So your dad, so just to say Grandpa was Packers.
[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_04]: Dad is Steelers. Correct.
[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Is he still Steelers? Absolutely.
[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_02]: So help me. Steelers are still undefeated.
[00:06:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Yes, they are. Three and all this year with, let's just say the Chicago Bears
[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_02]: are maybe hurting a little bit this year, choosing to ship fields off to Pittsburgh.
[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_04]: Do you know who else is three now?
[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_04]: Whoop, whoop.
[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_04]: That's right. Now, Becky, I want, as a Minnesota Vikings fan, I love bandwagons.
[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_04]: I need to clarify a little bit in the presence of your husband.
[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_04]: Are you with the Vikings because you seem, I just want to clarify this.
[00:06:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Here's the deal. I am a Vikings fan.
[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I often like to make the joke that I don't know what it's harder
[00:06:35] [SPEAKER_00]: to be in Minnesota, a Republican or a Vikings fan.
[00:06:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I find it pretty tough sometimes to be a Vikings fan.
[00:06:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I also grew up in a split household. My stepdad is from Iowa.
[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: He also is a Packers fan. It was that's, yep.
[00:06:48] [SPEAKER_00]: So we grew up with a split household there and here in our household.
[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I still sport the purple.
[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll be wearing the purple this weekend.
[00:06:57] [SPEAKER_00]: However, I have, I know too much to your dismay, Michael.
[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Seated our son's support for the time being.
[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_00]: He's two to the Packers, so he will be sporting some green and gold as well.
[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm not my place to get involved in how you're raising your children.
[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_04]: But was that decided in advance? Did you guys talk about that?
[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I decided that there are some things in life that are worth a battle.
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd like to keep my fights to some other things.
[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And so that one, I gave up pretty easily.
[00:07:27] [SPEAKER_02]: I will say though that I'm going to take my opportunity when I can
[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_02]: that he'll dress up in the green and gold because I know by the time
[00:07:34] [SPEAKER_02]: he's probably six, he'll want to wear purple and yellow with the rest of his friends.
[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_02]: So whatever team that chooses.
[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I do also have to say real quick before we get off of the family ties.
[00:07:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I had the privilege of going to Lambeau for the first time about three
[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_00]: and years ago, we went inside the Steelers Hackers game with Joe and his family.
[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And it was pretty impressive.
[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Joe, have you been to a lot of games?
[00:08:00] [SPEAKER_02]: I believe three games.
[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_02]: My first game was a Sunday night game with myself and my brother.
[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_02]: They were playing the Lions and they ended up scoring a late touchdown
[00:08:08] [SPEAKER_02]: in the fourth quarter to win it.
[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_02]: And we got to go back out to the the bars that night.
[00:08:14] [SPEAKER_02]: And the rest was I don't remember.
[00:08:17] [SPEAKER_04]: I have to say this in all seriousness, and I'm really torn on this
[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_04]: because Sarah and I went to the Packers game last year.
[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_04]: We saw Aaron Rodgers last game.
[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_04]: It was the Lions at the Packers.
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_04]: First time I've ever been in Green Bay.
[00:08:34] [SPEAKER_04]: I was so envious.
[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_04]: It was such a great city.
[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_04]: It was so cool to see the stadium so close and proximity to homes.
[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_04]: The entire environment was for someone who loves the NFL that I do.
[00:08:48] [SPEAKER_04]: I thought it was so historic and interesting to be at.
[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_04]: It totally made me angry.
[00:08:52] [SPEAKER_04]: I want the place to burn to the ground, but I was so impressed by the
[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_04]: facility and we had a great time.
[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_01]: We had a wonderful time and I owe Michael.
[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: He was given some tickets through some friends and gladly accepted
[00:09:04] [SPEAKER_01]: done so that he could take me to Lambeau Field.
[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_01]: It was a great time.
[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Speaking of Aaron Rodgers, I have to do a little fun fact on our side of things.
[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_00]: We started dating shortly before I moved back from Washington, D.C.
[00:09:16] [SPEAKER_00]: And for our second date and to celebrate Joe's 30th birthday,
[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_00]: he got us tickets to the Vikings Packers game in October of 2017,
[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_00]: which infamously was the game where Aaron Rodgers very early on broke his collarbone.
[00:09:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Got to say, not a great second date vibe, but he really pulled it out,
[00:09:36] [SPEAKER_00]: kept a smile on his face despite some crushing Vikings comments
[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_00]: and some rude fans, but hey, it all worked out.
[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_04]: That's wonderful.
[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_04]: We go, my family's had season tickets then 61.
[00:09:49] [SPEAKER_04]: And so we tried, I tried to take her every year to the Vikings Packers game at home.
[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_04]: We didn't go last year because it was like a New Year's Eve.
[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_04]: I liked it. Nothing good for me happens.
[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_00]: So are you guys going to be there this Sunday?
[00:10:03] [SPEAKER_04]: We will not know.
[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, this week it's in Wisconsin.
[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_04]: All the way. Let me just say, I think I would get arrested
[00:10:10] [SPEAKER_04]: if I was in Green Bay for a Vikings game.
[00:10:13] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't have never been to any Vikings game, a way game ever
[00:10:18] [SPEAKER_04]: because I just think I would get arrested and I don't,
[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_04]: I can't get arrested anymore.
[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_04]: So I just don't want that to happen.
[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_02]: That's fair.
[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Bringing us back to this weekend, though, I got more stats to share.
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_00]: We got the Green Bay's offense, which is ranked eight to Minnesota's defense,
[00:10:36] [SPEAKER_00]: which is ranked 11th and Minnesota's offense is ranked third
[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_00]: to Green Bay's defense ranking ranked six.
[00:10:43] [SPEAKER_00]: So that is going to be, it could be a real good game here.
[00:10:47] [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's going to be a great game.
[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_04]: And I think what's the spread?
[00:10:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Vikings are, I think down a word, down three.
[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_02]: Down three, yeah, right now.
[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I should have sponsorship.
[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_02]: The draft Kings usually is who I check in with and you're correct at minus three.
[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah. Explain growing up being a Packers fan, both of you,
[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_04]: because they had some lean years in the, I don't want to age anyone,
[00:11:11] [SPEAKER_04]: but 70s, 80s into the 90s, they had some lean years.
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_02]: With, I guess it starts with my anterior still being below the 40 line.
[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_02]: I've only really truly known Brett Favre as a starting quarterback.
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I know that's, it's hard to imagine the Vikings fans here think that he's
[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_02]: theirs, but yes, he did technically play for us for 15 seasons first.
[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_02]: And those were some magical years of listening to John Madden and Pat
[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_02]: in the box and listening to him say, look at Brett Favre throw that ball.
[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_02]: He'll chuck it into triple coverage and it's going to look ugly,
[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_02]: but it'll get there for it.
[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_02]: And then getting into Aaron Rogers and another 16 years, 17 years with him.
[00:11:53] [SPEAKER_02]: It's been pretty lucky to have two back-to-back Hall of Fame
[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_02]: quarterbacks, but you're right.
[00:11:58] [SPEAKER_02]: The 70s and 80s were forgettable.
[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Let's just say that Bart Starr will still always be my favorite
[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_02]: quarterback of all time for the Packers.
[00:12:06] [SPEAKER_02]: But love is starting to show us that maybe all you need is love.
[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Like we should do it.
[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm excited about love too.
[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm hoping he's going to play this weekend.
[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I practicing a little bit today.
[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So fingers crossed he's out there on the field.
[00:12:26] [SPEAKER_01]: But I would say the thing you look back for the last 30 years,
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_01]: there's been basically three quarterbacks.
[00:12:31] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's what I know too.
[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, considering going back to the right around the early 90s,
[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_01]: it's when I really remember really starting to watch the Packers.
[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I'm excited for a good game this weekend.
[00:12:41] [SPEAKER_01]: What about Aaron Johns?
[00:12:44] [SPEAKER_04]: I think it's great.
[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_04]: Please spend a half.
[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_04]: And he feels at home here and boy, the Green Bay tree, him poorly.
[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I'm so grateful.
[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_01]: He wrote such a lovely letter back here.
[00:12:55] [SPEAKER_02]: Today he put out a wonderful press release saying about
[00:12:59] [SPEAKER_02]: how much he loved it.
[00:13:00] [SPEAKER_01]: He felt it the first time he really felt welcome for the
[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_01]: football player.
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, true.
[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_04]: Becky and I have a policy that if it's not in our show
[00:13:08] [SPEAKER_04]: craft, we can't just help from the air.
[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_04]: Becky didn't really exist.
[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_02]: We live in an instantaneous world now.
[00:13:16] [SPEAKER_04]: What Sunday at your house at your house or when you guys are
[00:13:20] [SPEAKER_04]: growing up, what was it like for Vikings Packers days?
[00:13:24] [SPEAKER_00]: You got to have the apps or a crackpot of chili.
[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we'll do some chili and cornbread this weekend.
[00:13:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's still going to be in the 80s, which is a little
[00:13:31] [SPEAKER_00]: not ready for I'm ready for that to go away.
[00:13:34] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, you got to do the snacks.
[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_00]: You got to do the games.
[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_00]: It was always typically it was one that you had to have
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_00]: the numbers, the breakdown, some sort of grid.
[00:13:42] [SPEAKER_00]: And so have there's got to be some little illegal gambling
[00:13:45] [SPEAKER_00]: at home on the Vikings Packers game.
[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_04]: We'll have to edit that out because I don't need to get arrested.
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_04]: Joe, is it fair to say and just actually what's your level
[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_04]: of when you were growing up?
[00:13:57] [SPEAKER_04]: What was your level of dislike towards the Vikings?
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_04]: Did you do where they really a factor because you grew up
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_04]: and you're growing up, as I've said to Becky before,
[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_04]: Taylor Swift is living my NFL dream.
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_04]: And based on what you just described, you're growing up
[00:14:10] [SPEAKER_04]: when Farve and Rogers, you've had a pretty charmed NFL
[00:14:13] [SPEAKER_04]: viewing experience.
[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_04]: But when you were growing up and even right now,
[00:14:17] [SPEAKER_04]: what's your parameter on how much you hate the Minnesota Vikings?
[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Hate is a very strong word.
[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_02]: They're really you judge teams by their character.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_02]: I'll say that.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_02]: And I've never really had issues with the Minnesota Vikings.
[00:14:31] [SPEAKER_02]: It's it also doesn't hurt that has been stated before.
[00:14:34] [SPEAKER_02]: You can put up one, two, three or four trophies and you can look
[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_02]: around and say, where is everybody else's?
[00:14:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Oh, the Bears have one and the other two.
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Nothing.
[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_04]: So you did not have you did not like you didn't grow up
[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_04]: in a household where the Vikings were like the Antigrides.
[00:14:54] [SPEAKER_02]: No, it was the Bears.
[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_02]: The Bears were always the team that no,
[00:14:58] [SPEAKER_02]: that's you're not nobody's a Bears fan here.
[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, nobody is.
[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_04]: I my family, I really hate the Green Bay Packers and hate is a
[00:15:06] [SPEAKER_04]: strong word.
[00:15:07] [SPEAKER_04]: It's the only thing I really have space in my heart to hate
[00:15:09] [SPEAKER_04]: is the Green Bay Packers.
[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_04]: But I grew up in a household that hated the Green Bay
[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_04]: Packers like a lot like really a lot.
[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_04]: And so I carry that.
[00:15:18] [SPEAKER_04]: I try to carry that tradition on to our children just to
[00:15:21] [SPEAKER_04]: continue that hateful cycle.
[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Sarah, we need a response from you on that.
[00:15:27] [SPEAKER_01]: It's true.
[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_01]: He hasn't carried that on.
[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: However, I always think forage just good sportsmanship
[00:15:32] [SPEAKER_01]: for my kids and for myself.
[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_01]: So I tell him I want to see a good game.
[00:15:36] [SPEAKER_01]: He always makes fun of me.
[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_01]: You just want everybody to have a good time.
[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't want a good time.
[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_01]: It's about a good game.
[00:15:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Like good game.
[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't have to say I think the earliest
[00:15:46] [SPEAKER_01]: recollection I have of Vikings in my house,
[00:15:49] [SPEAKER_01]: they were basically a non-entity would actually be
[00:15:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Fran Tarkington.
[00:15:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's because he was on was at the show.
[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_01]: That's incredible.
[00:15:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_01]: That's really all I remember about from a Viking
[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_01]: perspective from the 80s.
[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_01]: So that doesn't say much about your team, really.
[00:16:04] [SPEAKER_04]: That hurts.
[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_04]: But Vikings, I will be very honest with you.
[00:16:08] [SPEAKER_04]: I love to hate the Packers.
[00:16:11] [SPEAKER_04]: And so I would be sad even though I want the franchise
[00:16:14] [SPEAKER_04]: to be bankrupt and I want them to be the whole thing to go
[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_04]: on, I would be really sad.
[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_04]: And laugh because it really like this week is just awesome.
[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_04]: I love this week.
[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_04]: I love talking about it.
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_04]: I meet new people and having this experience.
[00:16:27] [SPEAKER_04]: And I would never want that to change.
[00:16:29] [SPEAKER_04]: But I can tell you, man, do I hate the Green Bay Packers?
[00:16:34] [SPEAKER_00]: That it's been fun.
[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_04]: Just a couple of quick questions.
[00:16:38] [SPEAKER_04]: Oh, no, I don't mean to take too much for a day.
[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_04]: I'd like to ask since I prepared for this.
[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:16:42] [SPEAKER_04]: What are the concerns that either of you two have
[00:16:44] [SPEAKER_04]: about the economic viability of having a team
[00:16:48] [SPEAKER_04]: community owned like the Green Bay Packers?
[00:16:50] [SPEAKER_04]: Because I have some concerns I thought we could discuss.
[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Would you like to share your concerns first?
[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_04]: I think that's some analysis that I did.
[00:16:58] [SPEAKER_04]: There's limited financial flexibility and growth
[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_04]: with the community team.
[00:17:03] [SPEAKER_04]: This could really be bad for the economy.
[00:17:05] [SPEAKER_04]: So the Republican as conservatives, you guys shouldn't
[00:17:08] [SPEAKER_04]: want to support the Green Bay Packers.
[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_04]: This little conservative is because it really also impacts
[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_04]: competitive parity in the league.
[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_04]: It could be overall bad for the league because it's
[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_04]: a disincentive when it's community organized like this
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_04]: and there's no market based solutions.
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_04]: They're just tied to a team.
[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_04]: They're not concerned about the product.
[00:17:28] [SPEAKER_04]: I would make the case as someone who loves the NFL,
[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_04]: that the Green Bay Packers should be disbanded
[00:17:34] [SPEAKER_04]: and shipped to another city where they could be more
[00:17:38] [SPEAKER_04]: of an economic shareholder and more of an economic
[00:17:41] [SPEAKER_04]: partner to the overall growth of the NFL.
[00:17:44] [SPEAKER_04]: I believe that the Green Bay Packers are sinking
[00:17:47] [SPEAKER_04]: the economic viability of the NFL, getting them
[00:17:50] [SPEAKER_04]: to a higher market team, a higher market city just
[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_04]: would improve the quality of the play.
[00:17:56] [SPEAKER_04]: And as Packers fans, I think you guys should support that.
[00:18:00] [SPEAKER_01]: First, what's more American than owning a little bit
[00:18:03] [SPEAKER_01]: of a football to come up with?
[00:18:04] [SPEAKER_01]: About as American as Apple Pop.
[00:18:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Also, I'm not 100 percent on this, but I believe
[00:18:10] [SPEAKER_01]: that they are one of the highest ranked from
[00:18:13] [SPEAKER_01]: a retail perspective on selling teams in the NFL.
[00:18:17] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm always getting the facts to bite down.
[00:18:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that might be true.
[00:18:20] [SPEAKER_02]: If you go back and look about a month ago, a report came
[00:18:23] [SPEAKER_02]: out of the NFL's monthly finances and the number one
[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_02]: most profitable team in the NFL was the Green Bay Packers.
[00:18:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you have a report?
[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_02]: Right before Dallas.
[00:18:32] [SPEAKER_02]: It's not in my prep notes, so I don't think.
[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_04]: No, I really...
[00:18:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Notes. We just know our team well.
[00:18:39] [SPEAKER_04]: Just an FYI.
[00:18:40] [SPEAKER_04]: I have a spreadsheet.
[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_04]: I have a document called, why the Vikings are better
[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_04]: than the Green Bay Packers.
[00:18:46] [SPEAKER_04]: In proper font.
[00:18:48] [SPEAKER_04]: And I have nine pages of material ready for today's debate.
[00:18:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And who's the nerd here?
[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_00]: You call me the nerd?
[00:18:55] [SPEAKER_04]: I didn't share it with Becky because I didn't want this
[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_04]: in the hands of the opposition.
[00:19:01] [SPEAKER_01]: So I wouldn't settle for me happy either.
[00:19:03] [SPEAKER_04]: So yeah, so I really appreciate you guys doing this, both of you.
[00:19:07] [SPEAKER_04]: And I hope at some point we can maybe get together
[00:19:10] [SPEAKER_04]: and watch a game at some point.
[00:19:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think Joe got a little bit prepared.
[00:19:15] [SPEAKER_00]: So next time we got to do a video recording.
[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_00]: So before the showdown, we're here in Minnesota.
[00:19:20] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll do another round.
[00:19:21] [SPEAKER_04]: You got a bit ready?
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_04]: That's great. We're doing pop comedy.
[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_04]: That's one.
[00:19:25] [SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely.
[00:19:26] [SPEAKER_04]: All right.
[00:19:27] [SPEAKER_04]: I appreciate you doing this.
[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_04]: And we'll see how the game...
[00:19:30] [SPEAKER_04]: Let's get predictions.
[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
[00:19:32] [SPEAKER_00]: The Vikings are going to smash it.
[00:19:34] [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to be 4-0.
[00:19:36] [SPEAKER_02]: 4-0.
[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_02]: No.
[00:19:37] [SPEAKER_02]: This game will be won in the trenches 100% for it.
[00:19:40] [SPEAKER_02]: You talked about number one or top 10 in both sides,
[00:19:44] [SPEAKER_02]: offense and defense.
[00:19:45] [SPEAKER_02]: I think that Jeff Halfley has been an awesome addition
[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_02]: as our defensive coordinator this year.
[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_02]: He has reignited a passion within this defense.
[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_02]: And you can look and see we're leading the NFL
[00:19:56] [SPEAKER_02]: in interceptions already.
[00:19:57] [SPEAKER_02]: Tell me did we have...
[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_02]: We're at 7 now, leading the league,
[00:20:01] [SPEAKER_02]: and we only had 7 last year.
[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_02]: So I think Green Bay, as the Vikings come to town,
[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_02]: wins 24-20.
[00:20:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Ooh, Sarah.
[00:20:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying Packers 21-17.
[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_04]: I'm saying the Vikings win.
[00:20:18] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't care what the score is if it's my one point.
[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_04]: I don't care.
[00:20:21] [SPEAKER_04]: The only thing that's also refreshing,
[00:20:23] [SPEAKER_04]: I just want to give a shout out.
[00:20:24] [SPEAKER_04]: My mother-in-law is coming to town.
[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_04]: She's a...
[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_04]: So she's going to be in town starting tonight.
[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_04]: So she's a huge Packers fan.
[00:20:31] [SPEAKER_04]: We'll have other relatives in town for this week.
[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_04]: And it's really going to throw off the dynamic of the household.
[00:20:36] [SPEAKER_01]: It's great.
[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Good luck.
[00:20:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Keep a smile on your face.
[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_04]: All right.
[00:20:40] [SPEAKER_04]: Thank you guys.
